State Route 71, Part Two.
Expressway, back to Freeway and End at SR 57.
After entering Pomona, and passing one exit, we downgrade from a freeway to an Expressway from Rio Rancho Rd to Mission Blvd (about two miles). From there, we continue as a controlled-access expressway all the way up to SR 57 at the Kellogg Interchange where we meet the end of SR 71.
Exit: Mission Blvd. This sign was just installed at the Misson Blvd exit when it was completed in 2012. It doesn't look retroreflective. The lights on the gantry lead me to believe that it isn't actually retroreflective and possibly a tie-over until the freeway is completed. Note the new overpass for Mission Blvd in the background.

Exit: Holt Ave/Valley Blvd TO I-10 East.
Just like with SR 60, you have to get off the freeway onto Fairplex Dr and head north to catch the 10. Ironically, the off-ramp spits you off right at the old five-way interchange that used to be Valley to the west, Holt/US 70-99 to the east, Fairplex to the north, and the Kellogg 'Connection' heading southwest from modern I-10 south to Mission. This interchange was completely reworked when US 60 was decommissioned. |
Pylon for the San Jose Flood Control Channel at MM R1.04. To our left here, there is a remnant of the old 1932 bridge that the freeway bridge was built over in 1972. For now hop over to SoCal Regional's page with a picture of the old carriageway.
